EU and Mauritius sign new fishery agreement protocol 03 May 2017
 
The European Union (EU) and the Republic of Mauritius have signed a new protocol to the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement, setting the conditions to allow EU tuna fishing vessels to fish in Mauritius waters for a period of four years, in a transparent and regulated environment.

Marine exporters optimistic on removal of duty on US-bound shipments 02 May 2017
 
Seafood exporters are optimistic about the removal of anti-dumping duty by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on shrimps exported to United States, the largest market for Indian marine products. The anti-dumping duty has been in force on Indian frozen warmwater shrimps since 2004-2005. The levy was for five years. In the fifth year, a 'sunset review' was initiated by DOC (department of commerce) of the US government.

Kerala to be a net deficit in fish availability 02 May 2017
 
Given the widening gap between the demand and supply, Kerala will be a net deficit State in terms of fish availability and needs to rely on arrivals or imports for domestic supply. For daily consumption, on an average of 2000-2500 tonnes of fish is required and the domestic supply caters to only 60 per cent. The remaining has to be sourced or imported from other states or countries.

Assembly approves fish farm regulation exemptions 02 May 2017
 
MADISON, Wis. — The state Assembly has passed a bill that would ease fish farm regulations. The Republican bill would exempt fish farms from needing permits for discharging material into a wetland if the wetland was created for fish farming; allow the use of a natural water body as a fish farm; and exempt fish farms from needing permits to construct or enlarge an artificial water body that connects with a navigable waterway.

Japan surpassed the U.S. to become the biggest buyer of Vietnamese seafood in the first quarter of this year, according to the monthly report of Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Pollution Closes Shellfish Harvest in Six Commercial Growing Areas,Threatens Others 27 Apr 2017
 
An annual evaluation of water quality in shellfish harvesting areas found that high bacteria levels will lead to harvest closures for six of Washington’s 105 commercial shellfish areas. An additional 16 areas currently meet water quality standards but are threatened with closure due to periodic bacterial pollution.

Egypt imposes tariff on exports of fish- Trade Ministry 27 Apr 2017
 
Egypt's Trade Ministry on Thursday imposed a tariff on the exports of fresh and frozen fish of 12,000 Egyptian pounds per tonne for four months. The decision comes two days after President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said Egypt had halted fish exports after a surge in sales to foreign markets following last November's currency devaluation led to supply shortages locally and a rise in domestic prices.
