Fishing season opens with new hopes: Karnataka 01 Aug 2017
 
After a hiatus of 61 days of monsoon fishing ban, the new fishing season 2017-18 will open on Tuesday August 1. The season opens with a new hope as for the first time in the history of capture fishing in India, the monsoon ban has been uniformly spread out all across the Western coast maritime states - Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Seafood industry likely to get boost post GST 28 Jun 2017
 
The seafood and processed fish industry in Odisha is likely to get a major boost after rolling out of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) from July 1. Earlier 12.5% tax was levied on processed fish, which has brought down to 5% under GST.

A week after trawling ban, fish prices shoot up 23 Jun 2017
 
Kochi: The trawling ban on territorial waters has started reflecting on the fish prices in the market. A week into the ban and the availability of most of the commonly seen fish varieties have come down. Squid, mullets and prawns have become scarce. Initially, sardines and mackerels were brought from Andhra coast and sold here during the ban period.

Japan Frozen Salmon Market Weakens Ahead of New Season Production in Russia and Alaska 22 Jun 2017
 
The price in domestic trading in frozen salmon in Japan, which peaked out late in March, has been declining steadily over the past two months. This is causing Russian sockeye sellers to hold back on price quotes, and also suggests difficulties for Japanese buyers of Alaskan sockeye.

India’s seafood exports at all-time high, revenue soars to $5.78 bn 08 Jun 2017
 
Seafood exports from the country hit an all-time high last fiscal with the total revenue touching $5.78 billion by exporting 11,34,948 tonnes of seafood products largely due to a robust demand for frozen shrimp and fish.
